Haunted Texts returns for its seventh summer.

We will read, watch, discuss & write our way   through literary & artistic underworlds:

For writers, artists & thinkers working with material that feels difficult to approach directly.

HAUNTED TEXTS VII:

UNDERWORLDS

In this three session workshop,

we will read, watch, discuss & write our way

through literary and artistic underworlds.

We will explore descent, enclosure,

darkness & disorientation

as creative methods,

ways of thinking & writing under pressure,

inside uncertainty,

inside what cannot yet be fully seen.

What does it mean

to write from underground?
What becomes visible there?

How do we navigate the passages

between worlds?
What do we bring back with us when we return?

We will work with fragments

of text, film, testimony, myth & contemporary writing,

alongside guided writing experiments.

 This workshop is for you

 What is Haunted Texts?

Haunted Texts is an ongoing series
of intimate writing laboratories
exploring literature, film, memory,
obsession, the uncanny
& the creative process.

Some of us have been meeting

 for over seven years!

 People come for many reasons:

some because they miss intellectual & creative companionship,

others are returning to writing after years away,

 or carrying material

that feels difficult to approach directly.

 Together, we follow images, fragments,

 obsessions & unexpected associations.

 We form small, recurring communities

with participants joining from different countries,

 backgrounds & stages of life,

 who share a curiosity

about the things that haunt us

& a desire to write the thing that won't leave us alone.

 Participants have returned to poetry,

 completed stories, published books,

 or rediscovered forms of attention

& creative vitality

they worried they had lost.

To help make the workshop more accessible,

I offer two partial scholarships

for those with financial need.

These are intended to support individuals

who feel deeply called to the work

but may not otherwise be able to participate.

If this resonates with you,

please don’t hesitate to reach out to me

 About Amital

I write film, theater & other texts.

 I teach experimental writing workshops

& love to help writers surprise themselves.

Here are some things writers

have said about working with me:

“Amital’s conception of what we were doing together

was transformational”

✵

“I’m inspired by Amital’s sense of urgency about reading and writing”

✵

“Amital gives feedback in a perceptive, unusual way that’s easy to hear and understand”

✵

"I found myself completely transfixed and transformed by my work with her"

"By approaching writing as a vehicle for self-investigation rather than focusing on the end product,

I found myself writing with a freedom I hadn't experienced in a long time"

✵

“No subject is off-limits”
